Why Orton Gillingham?

The Orton Gillingham method was developed in the 1930s by neuropsychiatrist and pathologist Dr. Samuel T. Orton and educator, psychologist Anna Gillingham. The method is an explicit, step by step instructional approach to teaching phonemic awareness. Each lesson is multisensory, and incorporates sight, hearing, touch, and movement to teach decoding skills. Teaching skills in this manner is effective for all students, and especially impactful for students with dyslexia. The Orton-Gillingham method encompasses all five Pillars of Literacy: phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Each lesson is tailored to specific student needs.

How it Works

Chat with Mrs. Kidder: Schedule a free consultation to discuss your child’s needs and next steps.

Book An Assessment: Schedule a time for your child to receive an evaluation to determine his or her needs and placement.

Scheduling: I will work with your child’s teacher to find a small group time during the school day that minimizes lost time in the classroom and maximizes customized instruction to have a maximum impact in closing educational gaps.
